Valor - boldness or determination in facing great danger, esp. in battle

Example - After being shot twice during an ambush in Afghanistan an SAS soldier tied himself to his patrol vehicle and kept on fighting.

Suffering from serious wounds to the upper body, the Digger clambered on to the front of the SAS long range patrol vehicle (LPRV), tying himself between the bull bar and the radiator so he wouldn't be left behind if he passed out.

Once secured, he picked up his rifle and continued shooting at the enemy as the squad made a two hour fighting withdrawal. The Digger, who cannot be identified, is likely to be recommended for a high level bravery award.

He reportedly slipped in an out of consciousness, emptying several magazines as enemy fire continued to pour down around the vehicle. Eventually he was evacuated at high speed from the battle field, still lashed to the front of the LRPV.

The wounded Digger will make a full recovery from his wounds after the September 2 battle. He and several others involved are now in line for top military honours.

MK - The SAS, God love em', thank God they're on our side. Where ever you are, who ever you are, you and your fellow warriors have our gratitude, our support and our admiration.
