Disney goes PC

THE Walt Disney Company has changed its policy to allow same-sex couples to have a Fairy Tale Wedding. Disney previously allowed gay couples to organise their own weddings or commitment ceremonies at rented meeting rooms at the resorts, but had barred them from purchasing its Fairy Tale Wedding package and holding the event at locations at Disneyland and Walt Disney World set aside specifically for weddings.

"We are updating our Fairy Tale Wedding guidelines to include commitment ceremonies,'' Disney Parks and Resorts spokesman Donn Walker said. "This is consistent with our policy of creating a welcoming, respectful and inclusive environment for all of our guests."

Last month, gay Website AfterElton.com criticised Disney for not allowing same-sex couples to participate in the Fairy Tale Weddings and Honeymoons program. The Lavish Wedding Option also includes a ride to the ceremony in the Cinderella coach, costumed trumpeters heralding the couple's arrival, and attendance by Mickey and Minnie Mouse characters dressed in formal attire.

"We are not in the business of making judgments about the lifestyle of our guests. We are in the hospitality business and our parks and resorts are open to everyone,'' Mr Walker said.

Alright no worries, I have a feeling it’s more the dollar than any new-found love and respect for gays that’s driving this change of heart though. Just a question on the Cinderella coach, I’m assuming the woman arrives in this, so if we have gay men, who’s going to get the coach? And since it’ll be gay couples, will they be changing Mickey and Minnie to Mickey and Mickey or Minnie and Minnie, you know, to keep with the theme?

Since Disney is no longer making any judgement about the lifestyle of their guests, I take it those taking part in bestiality, S & M and pedophiles, man-boy love associations, polygamists etc are also welcome.

I remember thinking, when we went to one of their theme parks; yeah dreams come true, but at a hefty price. I wonder if parents will be made aware of these new arrangements, so they can make their own judgments or will Disney ‘misplace’ that press release.
