The More Things Change. . .

The Pope quotes the 14th century Byzantine Emperor Manuel II Palaeologus and his writings regarding violent Islam.

Modern Islam’s response?

A HARDLINE Somalian cleric has called for Muslims to "hunt down" and kill Pope Benedict for his controversial comments about Islam.

And an Iraqi armed group has threatened to carry out attacks against Rome and the Vatican. Somali Sheik Abubukar Hassan Malin urged Muslims to find the Pope and punish him for insulting the prophet Mohammed and Allah.

THE Muslim backlash against comments on Islam from the Pope highlight the tinderbox situation the world now faces, immigration parliamentary secretary Andrew Robb said today.

SECURITY will be stepped up around Pope Benedict XVI's residence at Castel Gandolfo for his Sunday Angelus blessing amid growing Muslim anger over his remarks about Islam, the Italian ANSA news agency said overnight.

MOROCCO is recalling its ambassador to the Vatican for consultations in the wake of "offensive remarks" [Ed: it was a fucking quote, you ignorant moron] made by Pope Benedict XVI.

The Moroccan foreign ministry said ambassador Ali Achour would be recalled for consultation as of tomorrow on the instructions of King Mohammed VI. It referred to "offensive remarks about Islam and Muslims made by Pope Benedict XVI at Regensburg University on September 12".

The pontiff said his speech had been intended as a rejection of religiously-motivated violence from any side.
Pity Islam doesn’t seem to be with the program on that one. Then again, why would they be? The minute they start going berserk, our immediate response is to roll about on our backs, legs and feet in the air as we drool our apologies. I don’t see too much disincentive for behaving badly there.

The fact is, the international Muslim community appears hell bent on proving that Palaeologus’ words are as relevant today as they were when he wrote them.
