Am I wrong to oppose this?

Churches in Illinois have been hit with a new state law that bars them from discriminating against homosexuals. The new law much the same as the old discrimination laws around the country focuses on ending discrimination in areas such as housing and jobs.

The Illinois law firm Ungaretti & Harris, which specializes in labor and employment issues, published an analysis of the measure, which says, "While many such municipal prohibitions on sexual orientation discrimination expressly exempt religious organizations from their coverage, the new amendment to Illinois' Human Rights Act does not."

The majority of Churches do not turn people away from worship services regardless of their sexual orientation nor should they in my opinion.

I take issue however in forcing the Churches to hire anyone whose lifestyle is in direct contradiction to the teachings of the Church. Employees are representatives of their employers and in this case their wages are paid through the donations of the congregation. Applying the law here seems ludicrous.

Gov. Rod Blagojevich who signed the bill into law stated that:

"What we're doing today is older than scripture: Love thy neighbor," the governor told the audience yesterday, according to the Associated Press. "It's what Jesus said when he gave his Sermon on the Mount: 'Do unto others what you would have others do unto you."'

You have to wonder would the same anti discrimination advocates be as quick to force gay rights groups to hire employees that believe homosexuality is wrong.

If the liberal left is so concerned about keeping Church and State separate then shouldn't that also apply to government keeping their nose out of the Church's sacred teachings?

While I do not advocate discrimination of any kind, I do believe that there are some areas that should be left alone. Forced inclusion will not lead to a real acceptance, and gay rights are not more important than religious freedom.
